Coppa

It seems the Coppa website used in the /coppa command has been down since April 2016. --Sophie 09:20, July 18, 2016 (UTC)

Users leaving chat

It seems that a lot of times when people leave chat, you have to reload for it to actually take effect. This is also an issue in PMs. Blackout The NightWing (talk) 00:24, August 26, 2019 (UTC)

Russian language

Can you add russian language in Chat Hacks? I can help you with a translation. Lordonio 18:20, October 24, 2016 (UTC)

PMs

This script seems to make private messaging users break often. I know Monch stopped maintaining it a while ago but it really needs sprucing up (I'd do it but I'm not really familiar with socket.io) — Ozank 18:09, November 2, 2016 (UTC)

i18n

Can someone add i18n support? I see the use of i18n variables but no list of messages... the messages are defined on the spot. leviathan_89

@fandom 10:20, November 4, 2016 (UTC)

The main script was originally copied from Monchoman45's userspace, and it seems the translations are still being loaded from there. Perhaps that page should be brought over to this wiki too, so more translations can be added? - OneTwoThreeFall (talk) 09:29, November 5, 2016 (UTC)

A bit of an ask, but...

I know this script was written by someone else and is only here for ease of access(?), but would it be possible for users to customise the script via personal javascript? If this was to be enabled across the entirety of a wiki, it would be nice if users could change the default ping sound or the user group icons, which is something users were able to do in the past by having their own personal ChatHacks scripts, but can no longer do due to the restrictions put in place in regards to nonstandard personal javascript pages. PlasmoidThunder 20:51, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

Yes, that is possible. -452 13:22, November 24, 2016 (UTC)
Surely the script itself would need to be modified to allow for customisation, unless I'm completely wrong. PlasmoidThunder 20:27, December 8, 2016 (UTC)
You can add/edit window.commands to change or add commands with personal JavaScript. The script as it is already supports that. --Saftzie (talk) 21:59, December 8, 2016 (UTC)
I was more referring to the ping audio and mod icon URLs. PlasmoidThunder 23:40, December 9, 2016 (UTC)

Derelict Condition

The recent edits to the script have caused it to surge into a new level of disrepair and derelict state, being much more problematic than just crashing PMs, now crashing chat very frequently outside of PM too. Until this is addressed I recommend people do not use it. — Ozank 17:28, December 3, 2016 (UTC)

I assume this is due to the badly formed URL in the current approved version, and the incorrect page name in the last pending version. I've made a fix for that, but I don't use the script so can't tell if everything is working as it should now… - OneTwoThreeFall talk 17:55, December 3, 2016 (UTC)
I'm so sorry guys, this was an unfortunate timing to make a mistake... Rappy approved it just before the weekend because I told him about the change. I've pinged staff to approve it again, but idk how long that will take. leviathan_89@fandom 18:11, December 3, 2016 (UTC)
It's alright, we've all made mistakes that broke scripts! Looks like the fix has been approved, for those wondering if it is working now. - OneTwoThreeFall talk 06:46, December 4, 2016 (UTC)
That may fix this particular bug, but the long-standing PMing bug is still there, and I won't be using this script until it's fixed. — Ozank 09:23, December 4, 2016 (UTC)

Pings don’t work on Macs

I employed these hacks for a while on several Wikis, but eventually discontinued them. One of the biggest complaints I had was that the pings didn’t work at all. The text would turn red, but no actual sound would play nor any tab changes (not sure if that last is even supposed to happen at all). All of the people who experienced this issue, including myself, used Macs or Mac OSX, while PC users had no problems. Is there a fix to this?
~Ursuul 13:01, December 19, 2016 (UTC)

Likely more to do with what browser you use, not what OS. The ping sound is a Vorbis audio file, so it won't play if you're using a browser that doesn't support that format (such as IE or Safari). - OneTwoThreeFall talk 19:01, August 4, 2017 (UTC)

German i18n

Could someone please add this translation here? I don't want to break anything. :D -- Pucky (talk) 13:11, January 30, 2017 (UTC)

Additions

I'm seeing users copy/paste this script to change the DING audio as well as changing the icons. It would be nice if this was a config option allowing the script to be imported without altering it.

Another issue is that when not loaded through site JS (IE: directly from a copy/paste to Special:Chat.js), a race condition causes it to segfault (mainRoom is not defined). I fixed this on a site by wrapping the script in a $(function() {});... however, that seems like a dirty hack. It would be nice to get this script changed over so it works properly regardless of the import method. Rappy @fandom 16:16, April 22, 2017 (UTC)

Or could a ping script could be added into chat itself so we don't have to import the script? This could also allow having the same pings on every chat on every computer. --Sophie 22:57, April 22, 2017 (UTC)
There are more modern implementations of pings in chat JS lying around than ChatHacks tho - ChatNotifications come to mind. And more features that ChatHacks offers in unofficial form.
Could anyone test whether wrapping it with require(['wikia.window', 'mw'], function () { /* code */ }); stops the segfault issue? Not brave enough... -SPD 23:45, April 22, 2017 (UTC)
Turns out it doesn't. Any other ideas? -SPD 20:30, May 5, 2017 (UTC)
I've added config options for the icons and the ping sounds, added a check so the "mainRoom is not defined" issue should no longer happen, and also fixed a few other little issues I noticed. Hopefully I haven't added new bugs! - OneTwoThreeFall talk 19:06, August 4, 2017 (UTC)

Other scripts that ChatHacks includes

Hey, could you add a section, where you list which scripts from here ChatHacks already includes and which are planned to be included in the future so people looking for chat modifications just need to look if they can find everythink they need here without including any other scripts unnecessarily?

Modifying the script so users blocked by MessageBlocker cannot ping you

It really would be nice if the script could be modified slightly so that you can't get pinged by users that you've blocked using the MessageBlocker script. But I'm not sure whether such a thing would be possible. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 00:41, February 19, 2018 (UTC)

That's why there's CustomChatPings, though. -- Cube-shaped garbage can 06:01, February 19, 2018 (UTC)
Oh, right. But then there's still some benefits of using ChatHacks - despite the disadvantages - that I've never been able to find using anything else. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 06:06, February 19, 2018 (UTC)
And what are those benefits? -- Cube-shaped garbage can 06:11, February 19, 2018 (UTC)
(ec) like? --Sophie 06:12, February 19, 2018 (UTC)
Well, there's quite a few things, including setting yourself as away, though I've heard there's another script that can do that. Not sure about multikick, whether there's a replacement for multikick. And then there's multi PM and the clear button. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 06:15, February 19, 2018 (UTC)
You shouldn't be using ChatHack's MultiPM at all tbh. The clear button can be added with like a few, if not one, line of JS, and multikick really isn't worth sticking to a script just for that, since its not really used, and theres problly already another script that supports that or is that. Also chat automatically sets yourself as away and back. --Sophie 06:17, February 19, 2018 (UTC)
There are ChatAwayButton and MediaWiki:Multikick.js. Besides, nothing's stopping you from using a separate script for pings along with chathacks as long as you set your chathacks ping phrases to gibberish. -- Cube-shaped garbage can 06:21, February 19, 2018 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Just use both, people. It's not that hard. You can then reposition the buttons with CSS if needed. Also ExtendedPrivateMessaging is the only way multi PM should be done. -- Dorumin 06:23, February 19, 2018 (UTC)

Using Only Specific Features

"...Any of these bugs happening will require reloading of the chat to alleviate, and it may be tedious to PM when using this script as a result."

Since the only feature left on Chathacks that I still use is the Tabinsert and the "Stop the sidescroll bar to appear after someone spams" thing. Where/how do I get the script of the latter?

I know nothing about JS to just cut it from the Chat Hacks script. I am trying to stop using chathacks itself so PMs stop being troublesome. Unless those two scripts are what breaks PMs?
RenzXVI // Talk  // Chat // 02:58, Sat 2 June 2018 (UTC)

You're talking about ChatOptions, not ChatHacks. The second feature you mentioned has already been added as a default feature to chat a year or two ago. -- Cube-shaped garbage can 07:47, June 2, 2018 (UTC)
Oh, cool. Thanks. This really shows I know nothing about JS stuff. Each time I ask about something chat related, I get something wrong. LOL.

"Clear", "AFK", and "Ping phrases" buttons

Hello! Today, I encountered three bugs during using ChatHacks:

  1. "Clear" button isn't working — I click on the button and nothing happens;
  2. The same with "AFK" button;
  3. "Ping phrases" isn't placed correctly. http://prntscr.com/jtqhbi This bug appeared recently, around few minutes ago.

Hopefully it will be fixed. Lady Furude (talk) 18:01, June 11, 2018 (UTC)

Small problem

When I click the button, it opens two new tabs, the one by default and the other one with ChatHacks, so I have to close one of them. Can somebody fix that? It happens on Firefox, haven't tested on other browsers.

JUMBLES

I am using JUMBLES and whenever I enter !jplay, the request and the message before it get deleted. I don't know if it has to do with this or not, but it's really annoying... Bunnybug (talk) 01:09, February 20, 2020 (UTC)

Pretty sure Jumbles is an unmaintained script and the issue is probably not in ChatHacks. -- Cube-shaped garbage can 01:11, February 20, 2020 (UTC)
Oh, OK! It's just that I wasn't the one importing the JS, SO I wasn't sure. Thank you!
