  • I was wondering if there was a script that could either ban or warn users when entering a Wikis chat with 0 edits. We currently have a chat bot, and were wondering if there was a script we could install for it? Please let me know ASAP, so that we can finish our discussion on ESB (Encyclopedia SpongeBobia.) Thank you.

    • Scripts like that are against the TOU and should not be implemented.

      It's definitely possible, iirc w:c:pokemon had something similar in the past. I'm not 100% sure of it is against ToU, but feel free to email staff to check via Special:Contact/general.

    • I don't think its against the ToU because w:c:gravityfalls has a 0 edit script, and Wikia approved it. However that script would need fixing as it doesn't work iirc.

      Edit: As the last edit was before Wikia's JS review, idk if it's against the ToU.

    • Not to break ToU, I try my best not to get global blocked, buuut-

      (function checkForEdits() {
          if (!window.mainRoom || !mainRoom.userMain || !mainRoom.userMain.attributes || !mainRoom.userMain.attributes.editCount)
              setTimeout(checkForEdits, 250);
          else if (mainRoom.userMain.attributes.editCount == '0') {
              alert('You need at least 0 edits to use the chat.');
              window.open('/wiki/Project:Chat/Rules', '_self');
          }
      })();

      Should work. I'm still not sure if it's okay to use in MediaWiki:Chat.js though, so good luck at surpassing the JavaScript review. pls no ban

    • its not allowed, if staff catches you then it will be removed with a warning. Rappy will auto reject any such chat prevention scripts. You are allowed to manually kick or ban for no edits but not automatically.

    • I wonder why it would be against the ToU?

    • Maybe because it restricts what users can access chat?

    • TOU says:

      You will not: ... (ii) interfere or attempt to interfere with the proper working of the Site or any activities conducted on the Site;

      Preventing new users from entering chat just because they're new qualifies as interfering with the activities conducted on the site.

      You're really also not "allowed" to kick users just because they're new, but Wikia has no way to catch you at it.

    • having a script that automatically checks a user's edit count and kicking if it is 0 the instant the user joins chat is a violation of the TOU as Saftzie stated. Kirkburn even confirmed this back in a SC ticket. Besides since all js must be approved, Rappy or whoever is checking will not be approving this so don't bother wasting the technical time or effort. Staff is not going to let you moderate by script. Kirkburn did however state that moderators are free to manually kick or ban just like how admins can block for any or no reason at all. There are wikis that did that and that code was removed when staff did routine checks due to a security incident a while back.

      Mainly why I dislike Wik— I mean Fandom.

      Just because a wiki has such code doesnt' mean it's permitted, it may be that Wikia simply did not notice it. However, it will always fail a JS Review, because it interferes with site functionality.

      @PapiDimmi: Not sure how you dislike Wikia just because they don't let you add things that break their features and functionality. You do realise edit count means nothing and is an arbitrary number that does not tell you anything about a user? A user with X edits should not be disallowed from using a chatroom.

    • I agree. This should be against the ToU. The fact that they don’t allow simple cosmetic changes or basically any changes to anything is bullshit, though.
